Long-term review: 2016 Alpinestars Racer Braap

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is 49169531627_6a82c3def6_b.jpg

I got these jerseys in august 2016, and used them since then, now it’s Jan 2020 as I updated the review, along with my other jerseys, I switched type of jersey according to the weather, the Racer Braap jerseys I used when it was not very warm as in midsummer. I don’t have an exact number of which I have used each jersey.

Sizing:

I use size L for Alpine Stars jerseys, with Fox I use XL, Mavic Size L, Swix base layer I use Medium.

Some videos:

a bad video I was not able flip due to not using proper software:

Pros:

  • No itching label at the neck or itching stitching.
  • Comfortable against the skin
  • Good fit. No issues with the jersey arms sliding up.The jersey fits well over Poc elbow pads or probably any other protective padding.

Cons:

  • after some months of use the the label on the inside started peeling. but the label does not matter.
Alpine starts Racer Braap jersey laber falling off.
Alpinestars Racer Braap - lapel fallen off
  • All of the jerseys eventually developed a tear at the upper chest lower throat area, in a upside down triangle, after few years of use, then eventually some the sleeve ends the stitching failed. but nothing that can’r easily be fixed with a sewing kit. All 4 jerseys developed a tear like this, but this one had a shorter tear, but just gentle movement using my hands I could make it grow, so with in a crash or a lot more use it would tear a lot more, so this has to be sewn. Repair instead of throw away clothes.
Alpinestars Racer Braap

So far my most durable jersey has been Mavic Crossmax but it has a itchy label so I only use it in when I use a base layer. I think this is due to the type of weave it has, much tighter, no exposed thin threads, like on the Racer Braap jersey.

Alpinestars Racer Braap
Here you can clearly see the weave, and the damage after long term use.
it has oval shaped diagonal holes/channels/pattern with exposed threads going trough them.

Verdict:

I am not sure if I can recommend it due to bein too fragile, but the fit is great. probably not, but you are the one that should decide.

I can only recommend a jersey that won’t tear, and last many years, which this jersey does not. but of course you can keep using it and repair it, patch it up sew holes shut.

so if you don’t mind it’s not as durable as a jersey could be, and you want a jersey that had this amount of air flow through it, and not more or less, then you can go for it, but I would not recommend it.

Long-Term review 2016 Fox FlexAir XL jersey

Bilderesultat for 2016 Fox FlexAir XL jersey

I just bought all jerseys I needed, from various brands, on sale at Ridestore, as I that’ where I found most jerseys at best price at the time, got them all on sale, this is the 2016 Fox Flexair Libra Blue jersey, they come in different colors, but are the same other wise.

It’s thin, and has a lot of venting holes all over.

As The name suggest air flows trough it, the jersey is thin, has a lot of venting holes all over it, it creates air flow, I can feel the air flowing trough keeping me cooler, similar to opening two windows in your home.

These types of jerseys have a weakness they tear easily, it’s easy for it to get stuck on something like a branch and tear a big hole in it.

August 23, 2016 I hit a branch when mountain biking, and this was the result.

Torn elbow 2016 Fox Flexair Libra Blue jersey

it seems to be impossible to not tear it or make small holes in it all over.

But there is enough stretch in it so you can repair it, sew it together, but if it’s too bad you can patch it with similar fabric. but not every one will be able to repair it themselves.

The ends of the sleeves started to tear in 2019, and few small holes in the fore arm.

So this is one of the thinner jerseys I use on the summer.

Here you see me wearing the jersey

I will update this review later, so far I don’t have more to mention.

2016 Fox Racing 360 Cauz Jersey Style 14956 Work in progress review- added mroe pictures

The rear of the jersey has a mesh, so you back will be a lot cooler, I have a noticed slight difference on my backpack when riding with backpack, perfect jersey for hot summer days. but later I got Evoc Neo 16L backpack which has increased the air flow on my back, and this jersey allows more air flow than a tightly woven jersey.

Jerseys like these are a lot cooler than not wearing any thing, because sweat goes in the fabric off your body, and tries up, and air cools you down.

the jersey don’t have any uncomfortable stitching or labels.

The jersey I got have blue & white color livery, so it’s quite visible.

Sizing & fit:

Fox Racing 360 Cauz Jersey Style 14956

The jersey has a perfect fit, and works well with body armour.

The sleeve length is great, not too long or too short, just the right size.

I am wearing POC Joint VPD 2.0 DH pads, and there is enough room.

The jersey has a excellent fit, my Size Is XL, I use L for Alpinestars,L/G for Mavic

I definitely recommend these jerseys.

Review: 2015 AlpineStars Drop 2 Enduro jersey ( 2019 update, this review is in the process of being updated)

Sizing:

I use size L for Alpine Stars jerseys, with Fox I use XL, Mavic Size L, Swix base layer I use Medium

Pros:

  • No itching labels or stitching
  • good fit works well with protectors underneath, the sleeves are long enough, good size of collar, the jersey stay in place how it should no sliding or twisting of the sleeves or any other part of the jersey
Alpinestars Drop 2 jersey wear_20181016_171050
  • the collar is not too open,so it works well , it keeps the buff in place,I wear a Swix  Race X base layer underneath & a buff/neck warmer(s), for those colder times where you don’t have to wear a jacket to stay warm, as the neck is one of the places I get cold fast, this is a big plus for me.
  • the pockets do not interfere with my Evoc backpack, the pockets are perfectly placed.
  • the pockets are so big you can have lunch or some energy bars in them, or 2 buffs or 2 sets of gloves.
  • easy to take things out or put in the pockets, because of the Velcro straps, which makes a secure pocket to keep stuff in,but I would not keep small or tiny stuff in it because they could come out, on rough rides, because the Velcro straps are only in the middle and not on the whole length.

Cons:

  • Due to the way the jersey is woven, it’s more fragile than the Mavic CrossMax jersey, it has thinner thread and more exposed thread.

No pictures of this yet

  • the stitched part of the pocket rolls down on the Velcro strap some times, but this is not a big deal, there is more than enough Velcro to keep the pocket secure.

Verdict:

Not most durable option, fits great, I can’t really recommend it as it’s not perfect.

review: Fox 180 MX jersey

Size comparison:

Mavic int L/EU, GER M

Alpinestars L

FOX XL

My size for this jersey is XL, L will be too short arms.

Pros

  • very cool jersey, it’s so cool I can almost not feel that I’m wearing it, So its cooler than the Mavic Crossmax jerseys I have.
  • Wearing protection is not an issue, because of the perfect fit.
  • True to size Fit
  • Perfect with elbow pads.
  • not too baggy
  • The collar is not too big, which I think Mavic Crossmax had.

Cons

  • None if you are careful, something can get hooked on it and pull the threads, but this is going to happen with all thin clothing.

Verdict: Recommended

It’s a jersey, so there is not much to say about

2015 Mavic Crossmax Jersey long & short sleaves

I have not crash tested it yet:-), but I assume its quite durable.

the sizes are about 1 cm difference each way, so I can use International medium and International large.

Pros

  • very comfortable against your skin soft and stretches, much more comfortable than a normal cotton t shirt., quite smooth.
  • stretches so easy to take on & off elbow pads when wearing the jersey
  • will fit every type of body armor, I use POC VPD Air elbow pads
  • excellent fit
  • the collar could be a bit higher in the front.

Cons

  • the size label  in the rear/ neck is not comfortable against your skin
  • size label in the neck is uncomfortable
  • The yellow jersey attract bees

IMG_20151203_164133

Because I can use base layer and jersey but still feel cold in this area, use use a buff but I pull the jersey down fro the rear and on the sleeves so I get full coverage in the neck-chest area.

as you can see there is no issue wearing the Poc VPD AIR elbow pads underneath.

Conclusion:

good fitting and comfy jersey,so I recommend it

Review: 2015 POC Flow jersey

If  you crash a lot, and need a durable jersey, POC Flow is a good choice.

if you want soft and super comfortable jersey i would go for the Trail jersey instead, biut for me this is OK.

Pros

  • confortable, the jersey is smoother inside than outside, so it will not be as unconfortable as you might think.
  • Very Durable,i crashed 2 tiomnmes ( on concrete stairs and on asphalt) with this jersey on and it still looks like new,but i assume if you crash very bad the POC logo might get some scrapes.
  • no itchy size label

cons

  • None yet

i ordered wrong size but i kept it did not have time to deal with it so i just used it, but one size too small  was wearable but not so comfy to put it on, but hopefully i can get some more of these in the right size

IMG_20160220_022232.jpg

Conclusion, if you want durability, the POC flow jersey is a good choice.
