Long term REVIEW: 2015 Bontrager xr1 team issue 26×2.20

I used these tyres more than 5 months. I have done some mountain-biking with these tyres, but since I now use a full suspension-bike i have not recently done any MTB with this tyres. But I have done a lot of commuting.

Pros:

  • Excellent cornering grip. the side knobs provide good grip when turning, the closer pattern middle knobs gives you the fast rolling.
  • fast rolling well gripping tyre for asphalt and hard-pact trails.
  • very easy to put on off the rim,no tyre lever needed.
  • low weight
  • does pretty well on wet asphalt too,not like the LT 3 that gave no grip on asphalt

Cons:

  • I am between 70 and 80 kg and I need to run minimum 40 psi or I will puncture on riding stairs or  of side walks.
  • punctures easily on glass, this is cause by how thin the tyre is, it’s a about 3 mm I think.
  • bit too loose when putting them on the rim.

1 rear tyre got a puncture lost all air, other rear tyre on a other bike exploded in the bike shop, with a loud bang, the hole was pretty big like some one  stabbed the tyre with a knife.and this was with just normal commute riding to stores, but i got them replaced i the store, and  the 6300 bike now got these tyres both on rear and front and they are holding up well as long as i run 40 psi on the rear.2 tyres failed with normal commute use,fut that was probably faulty tyres,

I have used the Bontrager xr1 team issue for a long time, without any issues.

Conclusion:

Recommended

Good tyre,not too expensive.

Good lightweight tyre, fast rolling excellent tyre not matter if you use it for commuting or riding on trails

price $69.99

Review: BBB ULTRABASE DTL Road & MTB saddle

the saddle is harder than the Bontrager race saddle on the 2010 trek 6300,saddles is a personal thing, not every one will find every saddle comfortable, this saddle was not the most comfortable one I had.

IMG_20150924_192543

Pros:

  • durability is acceptable, it did not wear out or bend og any screws that fell out, so this is good,i got few holes on the sides from few crashes.

cons:

  • becomes slippery after at  least 1 year of use
  • the black stripes that go on the sides ,top of the saddle wear out after much riding.
  • only 3 colour options
  • bit hard, not as flexy as I would like.

REVIEW: 2015 ESI Chunky & extra chunky silicone grips

I have ridden with these few months now.

I heard the lizard skins are way too hard, since i already got ESI grips and they are much better than rubber grips,I ordered the extra chunky grips too.the chunky feel much better than any cheap rubber grip or lock on grip I ever had.

i need little bit more shock absorption,I can compress the grip so i can feel the handle bar,i will change them out for Extra Chunky’s hopefully they will be better.

But that said they are a big improvement, my hands hurt less, and its more comfortable to ride.

After almost one season the grips began to wear, and became ruff and started to peal off small flakes.26307676250_68f1a4b4fd_b

Pros:

  • absorbs shock
  • feels great without gloves
  • good grip,even when wet
  • 10 colour choices,i got green fits my fuel-ex perfectly.
  • stays in place, does not slide off.
  • reduces hand numbness – fatigue- arm pump
  • easy to clean
  • they can be used in the winter, I have ridden few days with -10  and more, with the grips, with out any issues.

Cons:

  • if you crash hard into a tree or something or similar, there is a big chance that they rip.
  • wear out faster than rubber grips, but for me its definitely worth getting more Esi grips,at least for mountain biking its a must for me.
  • birds can damage the grips like here, after more than a week there are holes so deep i can see the handle bar.

Putting them on and off:

What you should NOT do:

My method is better than the recommended method by ESI.

DON’T USE A SCREW DRIVER TO PUT THEM ON AND OFF!!! It will damage the grips on thee inside and the grip can rip apart.

Don’t use hair spray, even the bike mechanic tells you to, it will stink, and make the grip slipperier on the inside. no dangerous stuff to breathe that way. and no stinky grips and handlebar.

Don’t use a screwdriver

The best way to put them on or of is to use hot water!!!

I use this method below to fit my silicone grips. Hot tap water method: by doing it the way I do will ensure easy installation of grips. Let turn the use hot side only,to the high pressure, let the sink fill up with hot water keep most of the grip in in the water,to avoid pain don’t dip the while grip with your hands in the water, flip the grip to the other side do the same, the just push it on and and and for final step spin it into place.

conclusion:

good grips no matte if its wet or dry you get one of the most conformable grips on the market, and the price is not bad either.

I got Extra Chunky grips on all of my bikes now.
